Welcome to the (Blogging) World!

Yay!

Seems like blogging has become a favorite pastime for runners :) I personally think it is a great way to log runs...much better than a training log. I mean, in a training log there is only a small section to write down how you felt during the run. Some of my entries would have to be shorted to:

hot, humid, but ok. better than chicago but same temps. pb crackers before ok on stomach. garmin ptttt. new chocolate gu great. crowded bc of nyrr training run. 10 min pace good. faster later...like at least 9:00 pace most of time but not sure bc of garmin.

or something like that. (Btw, that was a summary of my last 14 miler). And who knows what that all means when you re-read it?

ANYWAY, the point of this post was to introduce two new running blogs from running friends, and one older running blog from a running friend. So here goes:

The Runner Mom
This is my running buddy, Lauren's new blog that she just started this weekend! She is amazing because she is a mother of a two-going-on-three-year-old, a social worker, and STILL manages to run and train for marathons. And her husband is an avid biker too! I have no idea how they juggle all of this, so I just have to admire her.

Eat N Run NYC
This is my running buddy Rebecca's blog. She introduced me to Dinosaur BBQ, which is the best bbq in NYC, so her title is fitting. :) She started this blog as her summer project. Rebecca is another crony from the Advanced group and her blog not only details her running life but also her life in NYC and how cool it is to live here. (And it is VERY cool to live here).

Vaya
This is my friend Jen, from Cincy, who started running with me way back in the old days. (Way back in the old days means the Hyde Park Blast 2006). She is now another Roncker runner and has had her blog for quite awhile, detailing all of her running adventures.

So that's it!
I personally already read about a million blogs on my lunch hour already, but I am ALWAYS willing to read more :)

Easy Day

Tomorrow I have an easy day and I am so glad, because tonight is our company outing and I want to make sure I can stay out late. I just have to make sure that I watch what I eat so that I don't have problems like last time. Looks like we are hitting Eastern again for a nice 12 miles. I almost feel like, 'what's the point?'. Just kidding. But 12 miles does seem really really light. Especially since we usually do a 10 or 12 mile loop and then add on from there.

What I'm most excited about (runningwise) this weekend though, is the Race for the Cure. It will be a good, fun way to do a recovery run. Plus, the course is completely flat. Last year, my friend Jen and I ran it and it was a lot of fun. Plus, it was just a very very inspirational race. I had just read Why I Wore Lipstick to my Mastectomy for my bookclub, so felt like I had a better understanding of what breast cancer survivors go through. It was really moving when at the beginning of the race, they had all of the survivors march in. There were so many of them!

Plus, I coerced all of my non-running friends to run again. Of course, this includes big plans for IHOP afterwards.

Which is good, because my tapeworm is back and I am eating like crazy. This does not bode well for my parents, who are having a cookout this weekend, but IHOP can be sure it will sure be making money on me.

This time though, its weird, because I am so hungry all the time, but I can't eat that much. I mean, like I will eat a burger and be so full that I can't finish my fries. But then, less than an hour later I am starving like I haven't eaten in an entire day. So I've been grazing like crazy.

Bill thinks its because my metabolism is fast but my stomach is small. Well, and of course all the calories I am now burning on my long runs. At any rate, I am not complaining because I LOVE to eat.

Hyde Park Hills!

We did it! By we I mean my husband and our motley crew of five friends who decided to brave the heat and humidity to run the course last night.

It is funny running with a group that is not a running group because we all just kind of stood at the start looking at each other for awhile until someone was like "uh, so are we going to like, do this?"

And I think that Bill's natural ability with running actually helped me out! My pacing is usually like I blow it all on the first mile and take a steady decline through the rest of the miles. Coach Joe and the Roncker's group HAVE helped me a bit with this by training me with negative splits, but I just can't help it sometimes.

So the first mile I look at my watch 7:16. I YELL to Bill who is injured by-the-way and who is also in front of me by about 30 yards "SLOW DOWN!! 7:13! ONE MILE! SLOW DOWN!" Then we run together. I am thinking 'Great. The rest will be 11 minute miles for me now.' Nope. Mile 2: 10:20. Mile 3: 9:36 (mind you, we had to stop for traffic for at least a minute and a half to not get run over AND this is the one with the big hill). Mile 4 plus whatever the remainder is if you go all the way to Edwards: 10:39. Pretty good.

And all of our friends who do NOT run were AWESOME!!! They finished the entire course doing about a 10 minute mile pace.

I was so happy. Now I am ready.

Afterwards we made shirts for the race. They are wifebeaters and say "LANDORKS" on them in puffy paint. (We work at Landor, and a lot of us are running since our company is one of the founding sponsors). Oh yeah. And they also have bedazzles.
